Please join us for this year's Mitzvah Day! Hamakom comes together for a day of projects and collections to benefit charitable organizations in our community and Israel in unique and fun ways.

Volunteer for Mitzvah Day

Donation items to bring on Mitzvah Day
- Used tube socks and tennis balls to make doggie toys.
- (Foxy and the Hounds) Bounty paper towels, X-large pee pads, AvoDerm puppy food, Meyers laundry detergent, bleach, Method all purpose cleaner.
- SOVA: Gently used or new chapter books and picture books.
- Full size toiletries (Shampoo, Conditioner, Deodorant, Toothpaste, Toothbrush, Floss, Sunscreen, Face Wash, Body Wash, Shaving Cream, Shaving Razors, Chapstick, etc.)
- Winter clothes; coats, sweaters, jackets, blankets, long sleeve shirts, rain ponchos, umbrellas, etc.
- Thanksgiving Bags that include: can of cranberries, yams, jello, veggies, corn muffins mix, mashed potato buds, chicken broth, stuffing. Please use and bring reusable bags.
- Old pairs of eyeglasses and cases.
- Gently used suitcases with wheels
- Halloween candy
- Newborn gently used items like onesies, sleepers, blankets, bibs and new items like diapers, bottles, pacifiers

► Jewish Soldiers Project
- Participate in making Hanukkah greeting cards for Jewish soldiers in the Unites States Armed Forces.
► Save a Child's Heart - Make Bracelets for Children in Israel
- An organization that brings children to Israel for medical care, performs missions abroad, and trains medical personnel – saving the lives of critically ill children suffering from heart disease in countries where access to pediatric heart care is limited or nonexistent.
► Repair Chumashim
Repair chumashim with our very own Jackie Ben Efraim!
► Greeting Cards for Community of Caring
- Participate in making Community of Caring cards for our Hamakom members in need.
► Make Sandwiches for People Experiencing Homelessness
- Get excited to make PB&J sandwiches with us at Mitzvah Day!
- Sandwich making will be an outside activity.
► Explore a Fire Station Truck
- Get excited to see the inside of a real Fire Truck and hear from Firefighters on fire safety.
► JFS Project Hope - Make Fleece Tie Blankets
- Make fleece tie blankets for children living in domestic violence shelters with JFS Project Hope, whose highly trained, nurturing, and compassionate staff of clinicians provide the highest level of services, trauma-informed care, individual service plans, and more
► LAPD Car Seat Assistance
- Join LAPD officers in learning how to properly install car seats to ensure our children are riding safe.
► Donate Blood to Cedars Sinai
Please register here to give blood between 8:30 am and 2:30 pm on Nov. 3rd. Walk-ins are accepted, but registration is preferred.
When donating, be sure to:
- Bring a photo ID
- Be in good health
- Weigh at least 110 pounds
- Eat a good meal
- Drink extra water
- Be at least 17 years old
- A 16-year-old may donate if they have a signed parent consent form and weigh at least 135 pounds

Tzedekah boxes available for:
► Foxy and the Hounds - Pet Puppies and Give!
- Foxy and the Hounds , Foxy and the Hounds is a Los Angeles based 501(c)(3) non-profit dog rescue organization. Our mission is to help the ones that need us most! We believe every dog deserves a chance at life and we are committed to saving dogs from euthanasia in our local shelters. Foxy and the Hounds saves dogs of all breeds, sizes and ages and the dogs that are often overlooked. Our primary focus is to rescue and rehabilitate injured, neglected, abandoned and abused dogs from our shelters, owner surrenders and hoarding situations.
- Collecting: Bounty paper towels, X-large pee pads, AvoDerm puppy food, Meyers laundry detergent, bleach, and Method all purpose cleaner.
- Foxy and the Hounds will have puppies present for Mitzvah Day to pet and adopt!
► Bundles of Kindness - For Care Packages
- A social action project to provide comprehensive care packages to people living in Los Angeles who are homeless, providing basic necessities, while offering human interaction, dignity, love, and kindness.
- (PLEASE BRING) full size toiletries (Shampoo, Conditioner, Deodorant, Toothpaste, Toothbrush, Floss, Sunscreen, Face Wash, Body Wash, Tampons, Shaving Cream, Shaving Razors, Chapstick, etc.)
► Collections for LA Family Housing
- Collecting new or gently used winter clothes (jackets, sweaters, hats, warm blankets, gloves, rain ponchos, umbrellas, etc.)
- Collecting and Assembling Thanksgiving Bags that include: can of cranberries, yams, jello, veggies, corn muffins mix, mashed potato buds, chicken broth, stuffing. Please use and bring reusable bags.
- LA Family Housing, an organization that helps people transition out of homelessness and poverty through a continuum of housing enriched with supportive services
► Eyeglasses Collection
- For Lions Club: Recycle for Sight
- The World Health Organization estimates that 120 million are visually impaired because of uncorrected refractive errors (far and near-sightedness). Refractive errors can be easily diagnosed, measured and corrected with eyeglasses, contact lenses or refractive surgery. Yet, millions of people lack access to these basic services. Please bring in your old pairs of eyeglasses and cases.
- Collect baby items for families: items include baby wipes, diapers, sleepers, onesies, bibs, baby toiletries, blankets, and clothes (new or gently used)
► Savinar Luggage: Bags of Hope
- Collecting gently used suitcases with wheels to Savinar for Foster Youth.
► SOVA Book Collection
- Collecting gently used picture books for children and chapter books for young readers.
► Candy Collection
- For Family Rescue Center and the Unhoused Population
- Please bring in your extra candy from Halloween!
► California Recycles (Electronic Waste)
CALIFORNIA RECYCLES (electronic waste) Items considered as eWaste:
- Anything with a cord, cable, or battery including Desktop and laptop computers and their accessories: mice, headphones, printers, and keyboards. Mobile Devices, Office Equipment, LCD and plasma televisions, computer monitors, CRT televisions, A/V Equipment, Small electric vehicles, circuit boards, motors, cables.
- PLEASE NOTE: We can only accept electronics that have a cord connection or cordless electronics. No batteries, light bulbs, or fluorescent lamps will be accepted.
